State of the nation

In viewing the state of affairs in the US of A the idea that are government has our best intrest at heart during this war on terror just doesn’t add up.
Today I sat at my kitchen table listening to a longtime family friend go on and on about the freedoms in America and what Arab terrorists have done to it. I couldnt’ help but ask him what laws have Arabs actually done to reduce our freedoms. The last time I checked it was our government that passed the homeland security act and it was local governments like that of New York City that came up with the silly and ineffective idea to illegally search the bags of subway riders. His answer was that they were forced to pass such laws because of terrorism and it is only to protect us. Keep in mind that he started out complaining about declining freedoms and to him it was the terrorists fault. I guess he never heard that some of the provisions of homeland security act, and even the plans to attack Iraq were actually being drawn up long before planes flew into the world trade center in NY or the pentaton. He stared at me in disbelief when I mentioned those things but was brave enough to ask the question my statement implied. His question was whether or not I am implying that our government wanted such terrorist attacks as a guise for passing these types of laws. I think he was on the right track but it was rather difficult for him to go further with what my statement implied-that our government or factions of it probably had a role in the attacks precisely because they wanted homeland security type laws, they wanted to go to war with Iraq, they want to find a way to justify spying on americans and for many other reasons we still dont have a clue about. When Bush said terrorist hate our freedoms, then sponsor laws that removes said freedoms one must conclude that he is either a terrorist, or terrorist supportor and that he hates our freedoms and needed an event to remove them. “nothing in politics happens by accident”. The attacks on 911 caused untold political benfits for neo-cons and major harm to the freedom loving state of America. We have become of nation of citizens demanding denial of rights, denial of freedoms for protection.
