Beast Empire or Vegetative State?

As I was reading the article about the persistent vegetative state of America I wondered why this might be. Americans are very driven people. We are also relatively kind in giving to charities because we can afford to compared with many other nations. Though the evidence says we don’t always follow through on our pledges. Considering those with much less to give, what can be said about how much we give qualitatively as well as quantitatively? There is also the issue of those we give to or the strings attached to some of our giving, but we do have some good attributes. Right? Lately I’ve been feeling like Abraham in the bible story concerning Lot. I’ve been wondering about whether or not a loving god would destroy a city if only some of it’s inhabitants are righteous. If I remember the story of lot correctly the city was destroyed even when one righteous family was found. Lucky for him god guided them out as the city fell apart.

We claim America to to be a god fearing nation. In fact I cannot go out in public without someone preaching his or her gospel to me. What is very puzzling to me is that the very texts we swear by have enough examples to show what the consequence for our behavior as a nation will be. What is it that makes most of us so blind to the plight of what is happening in the rest of the world? Are we so sure that god will guide all the “righteous” Americans out? Who are these righteous people and where could they go when so many hate us and our freedoms? Why are we so hated? Is it because of our blindness to even the plight of our fellow citizens? Maybe we behave the way we do because we feel we inherited the rights or what someone at the next link would call the “allowances” granted to the chosen nation of god in the bible. This includes the right to wage war and we’ve certainly been exercising it from our birth as a nation. Do we see war as keeping the peace ? We know darn well that our tax dollars finance the murder of unnamed men women and children instead of providing food, education and health care for even our own. We don’t put up much of a fight against such monstrosities so I have to ask questions.

A few protest here and there but that also seems to be an effort wasted because many of us have no real clue of what protest really is or what the protest itself is really about. Then there is cointelpro where agents love to inflitrate activist groups. Most of us everyday citizen slaves don’t give a second thought as to how we keep the oil, dollars or whatever the symbol of material prosperity we crave going. Even when we put up a fight it’s really to protect our own material comfort. I thought about this when a friend of mine speaking of the pope a few days ago asked whether or not US force would have killed him along with the Iraqis if he had made himself a human shield in the middle of Fallujah. We don’t know for sure or do we? Personally, I think they would have killed him and blame some Arab or they’d pull a Guliana style operation and kill someone in his entourage as an example not to meddle in the vegetative state’s business.

Ok I won’t be so cynical but form the looks of things, the standard forms of protest don’t really work for Americans. Why would that be? Are we of this great nation founded by those seeking religious freedom really so spiritually, morally bankrupt? If so, how can we be spiritually bankrupt when IN GOD WE TRUST is written on our chief means of exchange? Could it be that the destiny of America is to be the beast of revelation, the beast described in our own religious text? That indeed would be an ironic twist of fate. What is sadder is that as each day passes we increasingly fit the bill quite well.
